FREE LIVERMORE HIKE

Saturday, 9:00 am, August 2nd (rain date Sunday, August 3rd)

Discover the remains of the former logging community of Livermore.  Learn about Livermore and its' significance in its logging heyday when it was part of the timber boom that changed the scenery and life of the White Mountains from 1880 to the 1920's.

Nearly 100 years have passed since the demise of Livermore and yet there are still some remains that can be seen from its glory days as a logging boomtown.  With some exploring you will find the foundations of some of Livermore's homes, and its logging mill, its streets and an occasional artifact while hearing about the people who inhabited this forest community.

Once the home of 150-200 people with an extensive railroad, the Sawyer River Railroad, Livermore has faded from the memory of all but a few people.  If nothing else impresses you about Livermore after leaving, the reminder that Nature can heal quickly the scars people leave undoubtedly will.  Trip duration: 6-6.5 hours.

This free hike does involve a 3-mile round-trip walk, and participants will occasionally be walking on rough ground and sometimes in trail-less forest.  Participants should wear proper footwear and bring with them a small daypack with a lunch or snack, water windbreaker, insect repellent and any other personal gear they wish to carry.  FMI- email cort@raggedmountain.com or call 603-356-3042. Participation is limited, reservations are required and may be made on eventbrite by clicking here.
