Apparel Designer
Location: Intervale, NH
Job Type: Full-Time or Part-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Pay Rate: $15 - $22 / hour

Job description:

At Ragged Mountain Equipment, we don’t just make outdoor clothing, we hand-craft it, one stitch at a time, right here in the heart of the White Mountains. For over 40 years, we’ve earned our reputation for rugged, handmade clothing built for everyone who actually lives in the weather. Now, we’re looking for a uniquely talented and creative person to help lead the next generation of in-house product design and production.

If you have a passion for timely, beautiful, and functional clothing and want to see your designs worn by the" best of the best," we're looking for you.  You should have experience and training in clothing design and apparel manufacturing, but having a knack for it will go a long way.  We'll provide specific training and education on how we do things.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design rugged, refined, and weather-tested apparel for hikers, skiers, and everyday outdoor living (oh, and dog clothing, too!)
  • Oversee production — from prototyping and pattern making to finishing and quality control
  • Work hands-on with our in-house team, directing stitchers and collaborating with leadership to streamline operations
  • Manage material sourcing, track raw materials inventory, ensuring we have what we need when we need it
  • Bridge creativity and practicality, blending small-batch craftsmanship with production efficiency
  • Keep an eye on timelines and budgets, making smart decisions that support growth without sacrificing quality
  • Collaborate with marketing and retail teams to align design drops with seasonal launches and customer feedback

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • You have a designer’s eye and a builder’s mindset
  • You’re experienced in clothing design, technical patternmaking, and garment construction
  • You’ve led a team or managed production lines before (or you’re ready to step into that role with excitement)
  • You can sketch concepts, create tech packs, and speak the language of production (think seam allowance, markers, MOQs, thread tension, etc.)
  • You’re resourceful, organized, and unafraid to get your hands dirty
  • Bonus points for experience with sustainable fabrics, performance materials, CAD systems, and domestic manufacturing

Why Work at Ragged:

  • Join a close-knit, passionate team of outdoor lovers, craftspeople, and mountain locals
  • Work in a beautiful mountain town with endless trails just minutes from the shop
  • Be part of an exciting family. We’re growing a legendary New England outfitter into something even better and bigger!
  • Create products that matter, designed and made right here in the U.S.
  • Competitive pay, gear discounts, flexible hours, and all the mountain air you can breathe

Think you’ve got what it takes to build the next generation of handcrafted mountain gear? Send us your portfolio, your resume, and a few words on what inspires your work.  Let us know!
