Quick Overview

The Armadillo Mitten Shell offers extra warmth as well as wind and water protection when worn over your mitten or glove. The back is made from waterproof-breathable fabric, the palm and thumb are made from reinforced Goodgrip material, and the rest is coated cordura. Features include a tensioning strap across the back of the hand, a cord-lock closure for the gauntlet, and a hang loop on the inside. There's also a band of loop-tape inside the wrist to mate with the hook-tape on our Tuckermitts (shown in photo; sold separately) and anchor them in place as toasty liners.  We recommend you add SeamGrip® to the stitching if you anticipate use in especially wet environments.

Details

Choose our Armadillo Mitten Shells if you need to add more cold-and-snow protection to your current mittens or gloves. They have a contoured fit that follows the curve of your hand at rest, and keeps the waterproof-breathable fabric on the backs from restricting any movement. The generous gauntlet allows for easy access when you're already wearing thick mitts, but it cinches closed with one hand when you really need to seal out the elements. Tough Goodgrip palms and thumbs boost the durability and make it easier to maintain a solid grasp on smooth tools, ski poles and shovels. We reinforced the high-wear fingertip area with burly Cordura, and added a comfortable cinch-strap across the back of the hand to snug them right up. For a favorite North Country combination, mate these Armadillos with our thick, cushy Tuckermitts (shown in photo; sold separately). You'll find a discreet strip of loop-tape sewn inside the Armadillos to match up with the hook-tape on the Tuckermitts, so they will mate together nicely, but still come apart for drying. (Please note that these shells are not seam-taped or sealed. For use in especially wet environments, we recommend applying SeamGrip® to all seams.)
